To maximize agriculture production from the small pieces of
agriculture lands through the selection of economically and ecologically
potential crops, introducing quality inputs (seeds, planting material,
nutrients, pesticides/ bio agents, etc.), high yielding varieties, appropriate
package of practices, technical knowhow, and improved technologies thereby
revitalizing the mountain agriculture and enhancing incomes through agriculture
and horticulture commodities marketing. The key
strategy is as: (i) deploying local youth as agriculture scouts for technology
deployment, inputs supply and day to day advice to farmers; (ii) promoting
Community Facility Centers (CFCs) in the center location of cluster for
supplying high quality inputs; (iii) demonstrations, expansion of improved
varieties, package of practices and technologies; (iv) Integrated Pest
Management (IPM); (v) improving soil health, bio-composting, IPNM for safe
agriculture; (vi) establishing vegetable, spice and fruit nurseries in an
entrepreneurial model; (vii) precision farming; and (viii) high density
temperate orchards.
Demonstration of improved and high yield varieties of selected crops as
well as locally suited varieties with appropriate package of practices under the
close supervision of technical staff/ hired scientists/ experts is the key
intervention which covers introduction of new varieties, production
technologies, disease and pest management, harvesting, storing and all
management practices in the farmer’s field. The successful varieties and
technologies are being up scaled and replicated on farmer’s interest and demands
with the objective of ensuring food security, nutrition of poor households and
producing scalable surplus volume for the market.
